As we have entered the second half of the year, we thought it would be useful to remind you all of the revalidation requirements for pharmacy professionals in 2019. The General Pharmaceutical Council require all pharmacy professionals to submit four CPD cycles , one peer discussion and one reflective account when renewing their registration.
These can be a mixture of planned CPD and unplanned CPD but at least two must be planned. Planned CPD is when you decide to develop your knowledge or skills and unplanned is when your knowledge is enhanced by an event such as a conversation with a colleague or by reading an article in a journal.
This needs to be with a named individual of your own choice who understands aspects of the work you do and the conversation which does not necessarily need to be face to face should focus on something that has been of benefit to your practice. This can be successes or challenges in your practice, critical incidents or a learning activity you have undertaken. The discussion should also include how this has benefitted the people who use your services.
This is designed to encourage pharmacists to consider how they meet the GPhC standards for pharmacy professionals and should include a brief summary of how your practice history for the year meets one or more of three of the standards chosen for focus in the year in question. In 2019 the three standards that pharmacy professionals need to reflect on are
• Standard 3. Effective communication
• Standard 6. Professional Behaviour
• Standard 7. Leadership
The GPhC revalidation portal opens for the submission of records on the 1st of September 2019 and remains open until the 31st October 2019 for those Pharmacy professionals who need to register before the 31st of October 2019.
